A Few Words on Monkeypox

Wellness at Penn is monitoring the situation on campus and is working closely with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH). Risk on campus remains EXTREMELY LOW.

Any students with questions or concerns about monkeypox can call Student Health & Counseling to speak with a medical provider. If a student is experiencing symptoms or has been exposed to an individual with monkeypox, testing is available through Student Health & Counseling in collaboration with LabCorp. Specimens are handled by a specialized lab and results typically take 3-4 days. An appointment can be scheduled by calling 215-746-3535.

We continue to work with PDPH on access to vaccines and treatments. Vaccine supplies are currently limited and PDPH is prioritizing vaccines based on a stratified risk of infection. We expect access to improve as supply increases.

For more information about monkeypox, you can refer to the CDC’s website or the PA Department of Health’s FAQ.
