On January 9, 2024, Student Health and Counseling adopted PennChart, powered by Epic, as its single, unified Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Student health information will remain private and confidential, but this means Penn students who access care through Student Health and Counseling now have better coordination between care providers within Student Health and Counseling, between Student Health and Counseling and their Penn Medicine providers, and potentially with their healthcare providers outside of both organizations (this can include their hometown care providers).
As a result of this transition, we will be continuing to train our staff, update our Wellness Portal, and put in place special features for our students to utilize.
Benefits to Students
Stay in touch with providers
Students can send non-urgent messages to their care team within Student Health and Counseling and get a response through your new Wellness Portal. The Portal can also be used to request referrals, read after-visit notes from providers, and request prescription renewals.
Schedule visits and check in online
Students can find and schedule medical care or counseling appointments that work with their schedule. This online scheduling capability will be available in the coming weeks. The check-in process can also be completed online before each visit (such as verifying address, allergies, and current medications).
Access and share health information
Our new EHR lets students easily and securely share their Student Health and Counseling health record with Penn Medicine and other providers outside of the organization. Visit records can also be downloaded and accounts with other healthcare organizations can be linked so that students can view more health information in one place.
Get test results and notes from your doctor
Our new EHR allows access to test results online when they become available. Students can also access notes written and shared by their care team during medical care and counseling visits. These notes often include important information about taking medications or managing a condition.

Actions for Students to Take
-
Create your online portal account: You can create your Wellness portal here.
If you already have an existing myPennMedicine account, there is no need to create a new account. Your Student Health and Counseling health record information will be added automatically to your Penn Medicine account.
- Review privacy settings for:
- The Health Information Exchange – to opt out, let the front desk staff know or call our office at 215-746-WELL (9355). We will not be able to make this change until we officially transition to our new EHR on January 9.
- Penn Medicine research activities – opt in to research activities through the Wellness Portal.
Important to note: All former Wellness Portal secure messages to your providers will only be available until Friday, January 12. The ability to send secure messages regarding your Immunization and Insurance requirements remains available. The ability to online schedule will be unavailable during this transition. We will notify students once online scheduling is available for both medical care and counseling appointments.
Reach Wellness at Penn 24/7
While online scheduling is unavailable, our providers are still available 24/7. To schedule an appointment or to speak with an on-call provider, call 215-746-WELL (9355).
