Patient Privacy Options

On this page, you will find information about some of the privacy choices available at Wellness at Penn's Student Health and Counseling.

If you have any questions, please email chiefwellnessofficer@upenn.edu.

Health Information Exchanges (HIEs)

Through PennChart, Student Health and Counseling's new Electronic Health Record (EHR), we now participate in automated information sharing through Health Information Exchanges (HIEs). HIEs securely share parts of your electronic health record with other health care organizations involved in your care. This information is shared to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of your health care.

To request that your health information not be shared through HIEs, please inform the front desk staff at our Student Health and Counseling offices or call 215-746-WELL (9355). We will not be able to make this change until we officially transition to our new EHR on January 9.

Research

You likely know that Penn Medicine is an internationally renowned research organization. We have settings in place so that students will not be contacted for research opportunities, nor will their data be used in research without their explicit consent. Should you wish to become an active participant in the research activities at Penn Medicine, you have the option to do so in your Student Health and Counseling online portal under the “Research” section.
